Mariah Patton, LSW, MSW
Hi there I am Mariah and welcome to Mind Trek Counseling! I am a clinician who works with all ages, primarily focusing on adolescents, young adults, and adults grappling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationship issues, substance use disorders (SUD), and college students facing career obstacles. Additionally, I support individuals struggling with communication, boundary-setting, and emotional regulation. Their objectives include developing coping mechanisms for mental health symptoms, enhancing communication and boundary-setting skills, managing emotions, securing employment or choosing a career path, understanding their identity, discovering their purpose, and learning to manage trauma triggers for improved daily functioning. They aim to improve themselves, seeking a supportive, open-minded therapist to aid in their healing and mastery of life's challenges, enabling a purposeful existence.
My education and training background
I am a certified Chemical Dependency Counselor License III (LCDC III) and Licensed Social Worker (LSW). I have led IOP groups for adolescents using the Seven Challenges model and earned a master's degree in Social Work from Northern Kentucky University. My experience spans community mental health, residential settings, school systems, and public health, offering therapy to a diverse range of clients. My training includes motivational interviewing, CBT, TF-CBT, mindfulness, the Seven Challenges, youth mental health first aid, and LGBTQ+ support, equipping me to serve various populations effectively.

How can I help?
I engage clients at their current stage, employing empathy, unconditional positive regard, and active listening to foster a strong therapeutic bond. I offer a space for clients to explore their challenges and tailor therapy goals to suit them. My approach incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand and navigate their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in challenging situations. I employ a solution-focused methodology to identify and solve current problems, a strength-based approach to enhance self-confidence, and training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) for a secure environment to process trauma. I also use mindfulness and grounding techniques for coping with mental health symptoms, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for emotional regulation, the Seven Challenges program for adolescent substance use discussions, and psychoeducation to normalize and understand mental health conditions. My goal is to provide a nonjudgmental space for self-discovery and growth.
My top three specialties are:
Trauma: Addressing the complexity of trauma requires a safe, supportive environment. I utilize TF-CBT to educate, process emotions, develop regulation skills, and explore coping mechanisms for trauma triggers, all at the client's pace.
Anxiety: I educate clients about anxiety's effects and help them find effective coping strategies. Through CBT, clients learn to recognize and reframe anxious thoughts and behaviors, aiding their return to daily activities with reduced anxiety.
Depression: Tailoring treatment to individual experiences of depression, I provide education, utilize CBT for challenging negative thought patterns, and employ DBT for emotional and behavioral management, supporting clients in finding fulfilling activities aligned with their values.
